The Donkey And The Load Of Salt
A salt merchant loaded his donkey with bags of salt and took it to a village. On their journey to the village, they came across a river. The donkey walked into the stream. Suddenly he slipped into the water. Some salt was dissolved. The weight of salt became less. The donkey felt relieved.
The next day, the donkey repeated the trick. He purposely fell into the stream and again dissolved the salt. This caused tremendous loss for the merchant. Now the merchant resolved to teach the donkey a lesson. He loaded the donkey with bales of cotton and the next day drove the donkey into the trick and sat in the river. The donkey, as usual, played the same trick and sat in the shallow stream. The cotton absorbed water and became heavy. The donkey to his bewilderment found the load too heavy to be carried. The donkey felt uneasy and uncomfortable. On this, the merchant gave a sound beating to the donkey. The donkey realized his foul game and mended himself. He did not play that trick again.
